Arizona Christian University, Arizona’s most selective college and its only top-ranked Christian university, hosted dozens of top students at its annual Honors Weekend event Feb. 17-18. High school students from several states and throughout Arizona participated in a weekend designed to introduce the students to ACU’s top tier academic programs and provide them with the opportunity to interview for top scholarships.
“It is always exciting to visit with the many high-caliber academic leaders who are planning to attend ACU,” said Len Munsil, ACU President. “These students can go anywhere, but they want to be part of a community of serious Christians who will be educated, equipped and mentored through ACU’s unique, personalized and purposeful education.”
Friday evening the students and their families attended a formal welcome dessert reception on the third floor of the residence hall, where they heard from many speakers including President Len Munsil, Provost and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Steve Adamson, Vice President of Enrollment Pete Hamstra and Dean of Students Jared Black. Two past ACU Honors Weekend participants, students Emily DeVore and Ali Miller, shared their experiences. During the reception, each student in attendance formally received a scholarship from the institution. The visiting students were then invited to enjoy a social bonfire before staying the night on campus with past Honors Weekend recipients and current ACU students.
Saturday morning, students enjoyed breakfast in the Fire Pit before their individual interview times, each with a panel of judges. The students were interviewed based on their leadership experience, their desire to attend ACU and their spiritual commitment in order to determine the amount of scholarship awarded. Six students were eligible to be considered for the President’s Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship with the highest academic standards. These students were interviewed directly by President Munsil, along with Abby Muller, Associate Director of Advancement, and Justine Bunger, Associate Dean of Students.
“It is always a special pleasure to host these honors students on campus,” said VP of Enrollment Pete Hamstra. “They are such bright and talented young men and women. What really makes them special, and the weekend so enjoyable, is the Christian commitment of each of them. They have such humble servant hearts, an acknowledgement that their gifts are from God, and a desire to use these abilities to honor and serve God and to serve others. We will be greatly blessed to have these young people as part of the ACU family next year.”
